Temperature Converter
Convert Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin, and Rankine with affine formulas, not a simple multiplier.
Exact defined conversion
32.0000 °F
0 °C → Fahrenheit
Affine conversion through K. Celsius and Fahrenheit are not related by a single multiply.
Systems: si → us-customary.
Assumptions
- Conversion is affine through kelvin. It is not value × factor.
- Absolute zero is 0 K, −273.15 °C, −459.67 °F, and 0 °R.
- Values below absolute zero are rejected.
Examples
- 0 °C = 32 °F.
- 100 °C = 212 °F.
- −40 °C = −40 °F.
- 0 K = −273.15 °C.
How to use
- Enter a temperature. Negative Celsius and Fahrenheit values are valid above absolute zero.
- Choose the from and to scales.
- Swap carries the converted temperature into the input with the scales exchanged.
Limitations
- This converts temperature scales. It does not convert heat energy.
- Weather “feels like” and cooking doneness are out of scope.
FAQ
- Why not multiply Celsius by 1.8 and add 32 only?
- That works for C→F, but the shared engine uses kelvin so every pair, including Rankine, stays consistent.
- Can I convert −50 K?
- No. Kelvin and Rankine cannot be negative, and the other scales cannot go below absolute zero.
